July 1992Greetings from Rio de Jenaro, DRAFT Intended to be a two month long exploration of South America, half way through I got mugged here in Rio de Jenaro and had to cut the expedition short, but not before enjoying several unique places on my itinerary. This is the trip where I got mugged while walking slightly inebriated along the Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro. Two junior high school age boys wearing shorts pushed me down while trying to frisk me. Falling over backwards I landed on my wrists and received a "Colles fracture" in the right wrist. The free medical treatment provided an education. After treatment and advice to have a surgical procedure done to install an external fixation "jungle jim" splint I decided to dash home for treatment and surgery. Peace Fred L Bellomy
