POIPET:
Entry arch into Poipet Cambodia from the Thai border. Like most border areas
in Third World countries hoards of people hang around waiting for foreign
money. The sculpture over the arch is a replica of the main structure in
Angkor Wat - also the symbol of the country included on the national flag.
Aranyaprathet Thailand: The road on the

December 2006
Greetings from
Aranyaprathet,After the
aborted attempt to reach Bhutan from Calcutta by bus, I returned to
Bangkok and decided to visit Angkor Wat again.
Aranyaprathet is the Thai border town on the way to Cambodia and a
delightfully serendipitous stop at that. Only one night here, but still
plenty of time to explore the surrounding area before crossing over to Poipet
on the Cambodian side of the border. I took lots of pictures on both sides of the border
before continuing on to Siam and Angkor Wat. Need to write more...
Peace,
Fred Bellomy

sandwiched between two hills: the northern hill is a mix of clay and rock
while the southern one is solid rock.

heading for Thai border where they will take their turn getting jobs hauling
cargo away from the border.

the Thai border. I watched all sorts of goods pass by: manufactured,
produce, tourist baggage, and personal effects.
