22 December 2006

Greetings from Aranyaprathet,

After the aborted attempt to reach Bhutan from Calcutta by bus, I returned to Bangkok and decided to visit Angkor Wat again. Aranyaprathet is the Thai border town on the way to Cambodia and a delightfully serendipitous stop at that. Only one night here, but still plenty of time to explore the surrounding area before crossing over to Poipet on the Cambodian side of the border. I took lots of pictures on both sides of the border before continuing on to Siam and Angkor Wat. Need to write more...

Peace,

Fred Bellomy

Aranyaprathet Thailand: Entry area for the Aranyaprathet Wat located out of the way near the border crossing into Cambodia on the way Siem Reap and Angkor Wat. Built in 1923 under the reign of King Rama IV the temple is sandwiched between two hills: the northern hill is a mix of clay and rock while the southern one is solid rock.
