Athens - This is the entrance to the cell hacked into a cliff face where
Socrates spent his last days on earth. During the Second World War the Greeks
entombed the monument in massive concrete protective walls, only late chopping
an exposure of the interior. For such an important historical figure I found it
incredible something more elaborate had not been erected.
Athens Greece - One of the several "staple"
holes carved into adjacent stones which were filled with molten metal to tie the
two stones together, a construction technique used in many places around the
world including Asia Miner (Turkey) and South America.
Athens Greece - I'm not sure
what this is a picture of as it has been fifteen years since I took it. As it is
adjacent to the staple photo, it might be related to that observation. NEED TO
THINK MORE ABOUT THIS.
